2016 Year in Review

As Girl Scouts of Nassau County closes out 2016, we look forward to 2017 and give thanks for the time and work of our volunteers who are the mainstay of Girl Scouting!   This past year we celebrated the 100 th Anniversary of the Girl Scout Gold Award with an extra fancy Gold Award Ceremony for 101 recipients at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, with Captain Cynthia Robson, Gold Awardee and a professor at the Academy, as our keynote speaker.   In November we concluded our 100 th Anniversary Celebration with our Golden Flight to Leadership Conference that included noted women as keynote speakers and panelists.   Geared to both adults and older girls, the Conference provided information and inspiration on the skills and traits one needs to be a leader. The bulk of Girl Scouting occurs in Troops and groups that meet regularly.   Troop Leaders, parents and Association volunteers set the path for our Girl Scouts to pursue Journeys and badges that intro...

It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that I was trudging through a torrential downpour to find parking at the Tilles Center for the 2014 Cookie Kickoff ... When I got inside, it was warm, FUN and the place was hopping with displays, games, snacks, a movie and DANCING! (I can't wait for January 10, 2015 when we kick it off again with the Samoas Birthday Bash ! Who knew that less than a year later we'd be adding a Digital Order Card to our Girl Scout Cookie Program ?) February was time for our FIRST Lego Teams to show their stuff, with qualifying tournaments, regional finals and another opportunity for a GSNC Team to go to the World Finals. Congrats to all, and extra kudos to The Icebreakers who capped their six years in FIRST with a third trip to the World Championships! March was so much fun as GIRLS took the lead as presenters at the Adult Recognitions Event! We can never do or say enough to thank and honor our VOLUNTEERS who go so many extra miles to give girls the...

2013 Year in Review 2013 was such an exciting year for Girl Scouts all over, but especially Girl Scouts of Nassau County. We had so many fun and exciting things happen that it was difficult to narrow all of them down to my TOP TEN… so I didn’t! Here are my Top Moments from 2013… 2013 Cookie Celebration 1. The Cookie Celebration last January at the Crest Hollow Country Club was so much fun! And February 8, 2013 marked the first ever NATIONAL GIRL SCOUT COOKIE DAY! GSNC 100 Anniversary Gala Honorees 2. There are not many jobs where you get to wear a ball gown for work!   On March 12, 2013, I had the opportunity to wear mine. Over 400 people came to celebrate with Girl Scouts of Nassau County as we celebrated our 100 th Anniversary Gala , including our Girl Scouts of the USA CEO, Anna Maria Chavez.   There was not a dry eye in the room after honoree George Santiago, Jr. shared the story of how scouting has impacted his life.     20...
