10 Ways to Say “Thanks” to Your Volunteer

As we approach the end of the Girl Scout Troop Season, it is important to say “Thank you” to those volunteers who made all of your Girl Scout adventures possible. Here are a few ideas to get you started: 10 Ways to Say “thanks” to your favorite volunteer Send a thank you card or letter. Nominate them for the GSNC Volunteer of Excellence Award . Send your Leader videos of the girls thanking them.  Make them a S’mores Kit. The tag can read “We need S’more Leaders like you!” Give a plant or flowers.  Post a “thank you” on Facebook, Twitter or in your Association house on the OLC. Make a sign to hang on their door that says “A great volunteer lives here!” (then sign your names) Have a picture taken of the entire Troop for your leader. Bake a cake or cookies.  A gift from the Girl Scout Shop !

The power of WORDS can move mountains!

Remember those days when your mother would tell you that “please” and “thank you” were the magic words. Well that still holds true today, especially when asking for help from girls or parents or thanking girls or parents for their time and effort. It is important to always be gracious and generous. When there are parents that are not able to share or be as supportive as other parents, be as gracious as you are to the parents who go the extra miles. Be patient and non-judgmental. (You really don't know everything that they may have on their plates at work and at home.) Be kind. And, be extra sensitive to treat every child as kindly as you treat the others. A simple “thank you” for a smaller task completed will make someone feel needed and appreciated and may compel them to go a step further the next time. Special thanks to Joyce Wagner, Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Chief Mission Delivery Officer, for her input on this edition.

Girl Scout Leader Day and Volunteer Appreciation Week

Every Volunteer Has a Story The best part of having the best job in the world is that I am doing work that I know impacts girls who are growing each day in courage, confidence and character as they strive to make the world a better place .    Another outstanding part of the job is that I get to share my joy and conviction with the seven thousand adult Girl Scout VOLUNTEERS who are the "feet on the street"; actually working directly with the girls, as well as those who do behind the scenes work to raise money, do paperwork, and just be helpers.   I see girls in programs and activities and I observe their joy, their curiosity and the learning and action that takes place as a result of their being part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience ... I know that none of it would happen were it not for the boocoodles of time, energy and commitment given by the adults who VOLUNTEER for this job. The hardest part of my job is finding enough ways to say T...
