Happy Father's Day to all of our Girl Scout Dads! Thank you for all you do to make our Girl Scout Experience possible. As we approach Father’s Day this Sunday, we would like to take a moment to honor and celebrate all fathers—especially the fathers and father figures who are involved behind the scenes right here in Nassau County! Through their dedication they exemplify our key values, contribute to the power of Girl Scouts, raise our future entrepreneurs, and teach the value of being a volunteer. Contributing to the Power of Girl Scouts Dads have contributed to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County in innumerable ways. Many men volunteer their time throughout the year to play a role in leading our specialty clubs, council events, troop activities, camping trips, and cookie sales. Men Volunteer Their Time to Help Their Daughters Get the Girl Scout   Experience In honor of Father’s Day, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) are commending the fathers who make being a Girl Scout possible and invite other Dads to step up to the challenge. Our male Troop Leaders, council members, Cookie Dads and behind-the-scenes volunteers are crucial to the success of each Girl Scout experience. The organization creates openings for fathers to be a part of their daughter’s lives and strengthen their relationships with one another through participation in numerous activities. We encourage fathers to be involved and on this holiday, thank the unsung heroes who load the camping gear into the truck, build “bridges” for our bridging ceremonies and lend a hand when needed . Girl Scout Dads Volunteer Their Time to Help Their Daughters Get the Girl Scout Experience The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) are getting ready for Father’s Day by celebrating the men who make Girl Scouting happen for their Girls! The amount of Girl Scout Troops available throughout Nassau County would not be possible if not for the many fathers who volunteer their time as Troop Leaders, Cookie Dads or members of the GSNC governance process. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of dual-income families in America increased 31 percent between 1996 and 2007. The 2013 report revealed that 59 percent of American families with children under 18 have two working parents, so it’s no surprise some Troops are led by mothers and some by fathers. Girl Scouting allows fathers to make a difference in girls lives through volunteering, as well as provide them the opportunity to participate in activities that strengthen their relationships with their daughters.

Involvement of Girl Scout Dads Growing by Leaps and Bounds. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) are gearing up for Father’s Day by reminding the community that ‘Girl Scouting’ is not just for girls. In recent years, the Girl Scouts have seen an explosion of involvement from the girls’ fathers. Their participation in their daughters’ lives through the Girl Scouts gives fathers the opportunity to share significant quality time with their daughters and watch them grow into young women with bright futures. Active fathers gain added benefit of building relationships and a community with other Girl Scout Fathers. “The greatest thing about being a part of my daughters’ Girl Scout Troops is seeing my daughters develop wonderful leadership skills and a sense of caring for other people that Girl Scouting fosters,” said Hal Crawford, a father of two Nassau County Girl Scouts.
