Why am I a Girl Scout Leader ~ Erica, Leader Daisy Troop # 2243

Why am I a Girl Scout Leader  ~ Erica, Leader Daisy Troop # 2243 What motivates me as a Girl Scout Leader is the knowledge that my actions will have a positive impact not only on my daughter, but on all of our girls as they grow and develop into strong, confident, ambitious women. As a full-time working mother of two daughters, age 6 and 2, I wanted a way to spend more quality time with my daughter. Although being a Troop Leader is a huge undertaking, the excitement my daughter has when it comes to our Troop meetings and Girl Scout events, which is mirrored in all of the girls in our Troop, is my motivation. In the short time our Troop has been together the girls have developed a sisterhood that will last a lifetime. As a first year Troop with Kindergarten and 1st Grade Daisies, the older girls have the opportunity to help out the younger girls whereas the younger girls have someone to look up to for guidance. Here are some things we have done to help our girls l...

Building a Support Team for Your Troop

Build a team of support for the girls and the Troop Leaders.  Most people will help if you ask, and more people will help if you give them a specific task. So, don’t be afraid to ask! Most parents want to support their daughters and the Troop, but many just don't know where to start.   So, Troop Leaders, be specific in your requests for help.   Start by posting a chart or sending an email asking for what you need and when you need it. Whether it is snacks, a craft helper (no experience required), a Troop Cookie Manager, a chaperone for a trip, a Troop Treasurer…   be specific and simple, and give an estimate of how much time it will take for the person to do the activity or tasks. If you have parents with special talents that would benefit the Troop, ask the parent if they can do a demonstration for the girls or talk about their skill or job.   Beyond the parents, partner with older Troops or individual girls to serve as helpers or to lead some acti...

Great Ways to Say Thank You!

Each year, April 22 is dedicated to showing appreciation towards those Girl Scout Leaders and Girl Scout Volunteers who have helped build girls of courage, confidence, and character. Showing your appreciation and thankfulness for your Girl Scout Volunteers is important, because without them, you and your daughter’s Girl Scouting experience would not be possible. These volunteers provide a fun and unique experience, which will help turn our girls into the leaders of tomorrow. So, what are some fun and unique ways we can say “thank you” other than just saying those two word…“thank you”? Try some of these great ideas Bake them something ...other than cookies because let’s face it we all have tons of cookies in our homes. Cakes and cupcakes are great because girls can do their own decorating and put a message on top for their Girl Scout Leader... baking also allows your Girl Scout to work towards some more badges. Hand-make a “Thank You” Card … Making a card will allow your ...
