  Memorial Day Parades are a great way for you and your troop to represent Girl Scouts! If you are participating in a Memorial Day parade soon, it’s important to follow the below guidelines on flag and girl order.  Remember, a parade is a place to have fun, but also remind the girls to handle all flags with respect. Flag Order and Girl Order (see additional diagram below or image above ) Girl 1- American Flag "The flag, when carried in a procession with another flag or flags, should be either on the marching right; that is, the flag’s own right, or, if there is a line of other flags, in front of the center of that line." How did you honor Memorial Day?  Yesterday (May 26 th ) was Memorial Day. Girl Scouts in Nassau County honored and remembered those men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military by marching in the Memorial Day parade, waving the United States Flag, putting flags out at the cemetery and planting flowers.    Share your stories with us on Facebook or Twitter . 

Memorial Day is not just the unofficial start of the summer, but a day for us to honor and remember those men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have served our country. This year, Memorial Day is Monday, May 26 !  How do we do this? Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? One way to honor Memorial Day is to learn the history behind the holiday . Start out the day by participating in your community’s Memorial Day Parade…   Wear your Girl Scout Uniform, present your Girl Scout Troop’s banner, wave your flags high and march forward with honor. Remember to take tons of pictures and share them with us on GSNC’s Facebook . If your town has a monument to those who served, take a Troop trip to that monument to reflect and respect those who served… Before your trip, have your Girl Scouts research the history of the monument. How do we do this? This year, Memorial Day is Monday, May 27!  Start out the day by participating in your community’s Memorial Day Parade… Wave your flags high and march forward with honor wearing your Girl Scout Uniform. If you are looking for a flag, the GSNC Resource Room usually has some flags for loan, but get there early otherwise they may not have anything left.  If your town has a monument to those who served, have your Troop make wreathes and hold a ceremony to place those wreathes at the monument or simply take a Troop trip to that monument to reflect and respect those who served.
