Love Your Selfie!

"Love Your Selfie" Program at Girlz Talk How many selfie’s are on your social media feed?   If you’re like many girls (and adults), probably a lot, but what exactly do they tell us about ourselves? Girl Scouts of Nassau County explored this with a group of girls and moms on Mother’s Day Weekend at Girlz Talk, an event run by the Cedarmore Corporation.   What are some physical characteristics you love about yourself?   Which of your characteristics make you most self -conscious? Would other people agree with you?   These are some of the questions that were discussed.   After hearing a presentation from Carolina Torres, a professional model and GSNC volunteer, girls took pictures of themselves and wrote positive comments on each other’s pictures.   Some examples include, “Your smile makes me smile,” “I love your hair,” and “Natural beauty.”   Over 200 girls and adults attended Girlz Talk, which was cosponsored by Hofstra, GSNC, and the Distr...

Preparing for the 5th Annual Girls Go the Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair

Exciting news! The 5 th Annual Girls Go the Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair will soon be upon us. With walkathon in the title, we know there will be walking involved, but what else can you expect out of this fun packed day? Well here is it… Registration will begin promptly at 9:30am… If you are the team captain and are looking to make the registration process go faster, collect all walker envelops for your team and submit them to GSNC as early as April 4th. This should allow your team to go through express check-in. The 2 mile walk will begin at 10:30am. Girls will have the opportunity to walk through the picturesque Old Bethpage Village Restoration, so be sure to bring a camera for all those picture perfect moments and wear your comfy walking shoes. Also, this year we will be having refill stations for water so don’t forget to bring your own water bottles. After the walk, the activities, fun, games and food will begin and continue until 1:00pm. 2014 Girls Go The Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair Patch Contest

Girl Scouts of Nassau County is proud to present the 2014 Girls Go the Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair Patch! This year’s patch, designed with exercise and healthy choices in mind, was a combination of two different patch designs, refined into one patch. The patch features a Girl Scout outside on a sunny day drinking water and being active.   The patch also features this year’s name of the event, date and location.  Doesn’t it look great? Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Girls Go the Distance Patch Contest! The winning designers are: Alexa and Mia from Junior Troop 3364 and Samantha from Cadette Troop 3289 Girls Go The Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair is a fun and interactive two mile walk and activity fair centered on the theme of Healthy Living. 2013 Girls Go The Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair Patch Contest

The excitement builds for the 2013 Girls Go The Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair as the Winners of the Girls Go The Distance Patch Contest are presented their Patch!  GSNC Walkathon Patch Contest Winners Last Friday, I had the pleasure of presenting the winners of the Girls Go The Distance patch design contest, with their commemorative patch.  Mikayla B from Senior Troop 3077 and Katherine P from Junior Troop 3006 and their families joined me at the GSNC Service Center to be the first to receive the 2013 Girls Go The Distance Walkthon Participation Patch.  The patch, designed with the 6 Girl Scout level colors, was a combination of two different patch designs, refined into one patch. The patch features 6 girls in the 6 different colors walking and running over green hills with a bright sun in the background.
