Giving Thanks! By Donna C. Gratitude should be an active part of everyone’s life, year round. Keeping a gratitude journal can make you happier, healthier and even help you to sleep better! Having our girls learn how to appreciate and value the many blessings that they have in their lives can help them to live richer lives.   I am grateful each day for my privilege to have this job. I am grateful I work for an organization with such a compelling mission as the Girl Scouts, and where I am surrounded by so many good people – girls, volunteers and our staff team.   Here are few things on the top of my “THANKS LIST” this week …   Our GIRL SCOUTS who are out there taking risks and making a difference in their community. This Thanksgiving, Girl Scouts of Nassau County gives thanks...  We are thankful for our Family, Friends, our Girl Scouts, our Girl Scout Volunteers, and all those who many Girl Scouting and the Girl Scout Experience possible! 

I am Thankful for…

Thanksgiving weekend!   A time to count our many blessings -- mixed together with family, friends, feasts and football!   Counting blessings can be a full-time endeavor... For the month of November, I answered a Facebook challenge to post something each and every day for which I am thankful. I started off with the biggies -- my faith, my family and friends, and my great fortune to have the best job in the whole world. After almost a month, I feel as though I've just begun to scratch the surface.   Naming names for all the people who have impacted my life would literally fill a small town phone book.   Just to name a few, I am thankful for… the joy and gratitude that comes from being an American citizen. the opportunities that I have been given. the ability to volunteer and all those who volunteer. being blessed to have been born with good healthy genes. the people who made sure I got through childhood with the things I needed. all the small things....

I still keep Sarah Van Breathnach’s book Simple Abundance beside my bed. It’s a wonderful reminder and tool for counting my many blessings. There is something meaningful and real when we take time to write down things in our lives that matter, and it is a practice that I highly recommend. November seems to be a time when we all try to focus on being thankful. The Thanksgiving holiday helps us to remember how much we have, and invites us to gi ve back to those who are in need. The Girl Scout Promise teaches us to serve God and country and help people at all times. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the whole year. I like that it brings together family and friends, with no need to buy presents. I can go to worship if I chose, but no strict requirement. I fly my flag, but don’t need to make a patriotic speech. There are lots of foods that I like. And I get to do two of my favorite things – set the big table and put out the holiday towels! In my own life there are so many b...
