2016 Year in Review

Image
As Girl Scouts of Nassau County closes out 2016, we look forward to 2017 and give thanks for the time and work of our volunteers who are the mainstay of Girl Scouting!   This past year we celebrated the 100 th Anniversary of the Girl Scout Gold Award with an extra fancy Gold Award Ceremony for 101 recipients at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, with Captain Cynthia Robson, Gold Awardee and a professor at the Academy, as our keynote speaker.   In November we concluded our 100 th Anniversary Celebration with our Golden Flight to Leadership Conference that included noted women as keynote speakers and panelists.   Geared to both adults and older girls, the Conference provided information and inspiration on the skills and traits one needs to be a leader. The bulk of Girl Scouting occurs in Troops and groups that meet regularly.   Troop Leaders, parents and Association volunteers set the path for our Girl Scouts to pursue Journeys and badges that intro...

Operation Cookie and The Confidence Girls Gain from Participating

Operation Cookie Send-off #2 Last week, those Girl Scouts who sold at least 100 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies for Operation Cookie celebrated at the Marine Base on Stewart Avenue in Garden City with a special send-off of Cookies going to local New York National Guard and Military Reserve units (those who helped during Super Storm Sandy).   We were greeted by Sergeant Moreno and other members of the team at the Marine Base.   She told the girls about the work that goes on at that location.   We were joined by representatives from our Operation Cookie partners, DHL Global, who assisted in sending Cookies to other locations.   (We could not have Operation Cookie without DHL!) Hooray for DHL! A BIG HOORAY and THANK YOU to the many Girl Scouts who go the extra miles to make Operation Cookie a major feature of their own Cookie Program efforts! Some girls ask customers to just add one more box for the soldiers when they take orders or at their booth sales. ...

2012 was a happening year for the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and the Girl Scouts of the USA!   There were so many fun things ... and there were challenges. GSNC's Troop 2012 One of the most heralded days of the year was March 12th, when we celebrated our 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the USA. In honor of the 100 years, Girl Scouts of Nassau County started the day pre-dawn so that we could hold a Sunrise Ceremony.   We continued the day with an Open House, welcoming all Girl Scouts and their families to the opening of a Time Capsule from the 85th Anniversary!   It was exciting to turn 100!   There were so many exhilarating ways to celebrate throughout the 100th year ... Girl Scouts of Nassau County the turned the Nassau County Dome Lighting Green, started Troop Nassau Violets,   welcomed a few baby girls who were born on March 12th into Troop 2012, and dedicated the Juliette Gordon Low Park.   Girl Scouts from Nassau County also part...
