A taste of the many things Girl Scouts can do. by Katie G.   Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors put their baking skills to the test at the first ever Girl Scouts of Nassau County bake off. Fifty-five Girl Scouts from twelve different Associations went head to head on May 13th to challenge one another in creating tasty treats and desserts, all of which had to be made by scratch. The bake-off which took place at the Cradle of Aviation , consisted of each level baking a different treat which would be competing against the other desserts in their level. The Daisies were required to make cookies, the Brownies, well to no surprise brownies, Juniors made single layer cakes, Cadettes stirred up some tasty pie recipes and last but not least, the Seniors and Ambassadors who made an assortment of baked breads. On February 27, 2015 Girl Scouts of Nassau County in partnership with the Cradle of Aviation hosted the third annual Invention Convention for Girl Scout Brownies. The event was a magical experience for girls, teaching them about the history and processes of inventing. Girl Scouts celebrated the contributions of female inventors like Mary Anderson who invented the windshield wiper, Gertrude Belle Elion who invented the key ingredient in chemotherapy and Stephanie Kwolek who invented Kevlar, the main ingredient in bullet proof vests. Girls were excited to learn that a 10 year old Girl Scout named KK Gregory invented fingerless gloves called Wristees and more recently 13 year old Girl Scout Brooke Martin invented iCPooch, a computer application that allows owners to video chat with their pets and remotely dispense treats. GSNC's 2013 Invention Convention Encourages Girl Scouts to Think Outside the Box (or Maybe with it!) As They Create Objects Out of Recycled Materials. Brownies Show Off the Chair They Created Last Friday night (February 22), a crowd of over 100 people gathered at the Cradle of Aviation Museum for Girl Scouts of Nassau County's first Invention Convention for Girl Scout Brownies. The girls came ready to DISCOVER more about the world around them, to CONNECT with other girls, the Museum and GSNC volunteers and staff on some cool ideas, and then to put those Discoveries and Connections together to TAKE ACTION by creating their own musical instrument and chair made from recycled materials. Girls also participated in an exercise where they designed and built a space station on Mars or the moon.
