Junior Girl Scout Troop 2177 recently celebrated their Bronze Award with a weekend trip to Woodloch Pines. Their Bronze Award addressed the issue of “Keeping Girls Healthy in Lynbrook.” They investigated various sports teams that girls could join in their neighborhood, created a brochure, presented their findings and distributed the brochure at a PTA meeting. They also learned about healthy eating and cooking. This past April, ELLM Association held their annual Daisy Pajama Party. Activities are run by Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors, and our youngest Girl Scouts get to see the older girls in action. What great role models! TROOP Clicks Cadette Troop 3476 of Plainedge recently participated in a bake off. Seven Girl Scouts baked delicious cookies for our six young men, to judge on appearance, taste, originality and texture. Our winner was Tara C who advanced to the Plainedge Association of Girl Scouts finals!

Plainedge Girl Scout Junior Troop #3456 started their Bronze Award project in June of 2013. Krystyna, Erica, Jessica, Sarah, Julia, Gianna, Natalia and Jacklyn decided that they wanted to positively impact the lives of animals. After much research, the girls decided to focus on making the world a better place for dogs. They wanted to permanently place water bowls in dog parks for people who forget to bring water for their dogs. They met with the owners of Marine Dog Supply. The Amato brothers helped the girls think their project through during a lively discussion. After evaluating the pros and cons of their idea, they decided that public water bowls may spread diseases. The girls hit the road again. Their next field trip was to the Last Hope Animal Shelter. There they learned that different breeds face different issues. For example, because of the facial structure of Pugs they take a very long time to drink a very small amount of water therefore requiring more frequent opportuni...

What is the Difference Between Taking Action and Community Service? I've attended a great variety of Girl Scout Award and Bridging events in our local Associations since the end of April.    Each of them has been special in its own way and each of the girls has inspired us with projects that show what girls can do. When I was a Girl Scout, working towards my Silver Award, I struggled with the idea of what was a good “Silver Award Project”.   Some of my friends wanted to work in a group and volunteer our time at a local animal shelter.   We all thought this was a great idea, but with direction from our Girl Scout Leader, we learned that just volunteering our time was not a Take Action Project.
