Not sure what resources you need make your year as a Troop Leader strong? Here are all of the basics to get you started:   TIP #1: Know the 2 staff people that represent your area Our Girl Scouts of Nassau County  staff is here for you! There are two staff people, one from our Volunteerism team and one from our Membership team that will help you start your Girl Scout year right. Our Volunteerism staff person will make sure you are provided with all of the information you need like trainings, background checks, etc. Our Membership staff person will make sure they guide you with registering all of the girls in your Troop, etc. To find out the two staff members that are assigned to you call 516.741.2550. Thankfully, most of us manage to find our own route to making friends. We strike up conversations, we join groups where we expect we will meet people and we inherit siblings and cousins who become our "starter" friends. For adults there are lots of articles and blogs on how to make friends.   But for kids, it can sometimes be a minefield. I have met thousands of girls and adults who credit Girl Scouting for the friends that they have now, for the friends that came into their lives through Girl Scouts, and in many cases, for friendships that have lasted a lifetime*.   The Girl Scout Promise and Law entreat us to "be a sister to every Girl Scout."   We often speak of the FUN and FRIENDSHIP of Girl Scouting, but what do we need to do to help foster a friendly environment for our girls? In Girl Scouting, “ Bridging ” is the term used to describe the process of advancing from one level to another. It is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of a Girl Scout; she has earned Journey awards, completed badges and participated in community service and Troop outings. The Bridging Ceremony should be an exciting time for a Girl Scout, so make the celebration fun and memorable. And, include the girls in the planning process.
