March is Women’s History Month. Throughout the month, Girl Scouts from Nassau County will be meeting community leaders, some which are Girl Scout Alumnae. Girl Scouts will then report back to us about what they have learned and what they found interesting.

Hi Sister Girl Scouts,

GSNC Womens History Month Blog - Kathleen RiceMy name is Devon and I am a Cadette Girl Scout from the Westbury Association. On Friday, February 22, as part of Women’s History Month and World Thinking Day, I had the opportunity to meet Kathleen Rice, the Nassau County District Attorney and a Girl Scout Alumnae. She is a community leader who uses what she learned in Girl Scouts every day.

Here is what I learned about Kathleen Rice!

GSNC Womens History Month Blog - Kathleen Rice with Girl Scouts and Her DogQ: What does she do?
A: Kathleen Rice is the District Attorney for Nassau County. She decides what punishment the criminal gets. She also presents all the facts against the criminal.

Q: How is she related to Girl Scouts?
A: Kathleen Rice used to be a Girl Scout. She tries to make the world a better place, just like a Girl Scout.

Q: What did you learn from meeting this former Girl Scout?
A: Kathleen Rice told us how to make the right decisions. She encouraged us to work in the public service field. We would be helping our community.

Q: What was interesting or unique about this former Girl Scout, and your visit?
A: Kathleen Rice said that she comes from a big family. There are four boys, and six girls. (in that order) She was the youngest girls in her family, and she grew up to be a great woman. She helps all of our community. It was also very unique, and fun that she had her dog, Pearl, in her office.

It was fun to meet Kathleen Rice, (and Pearl). Hopefully, I'll see her again.

Happy Girl Scouting!
:) Devon
