Girl Scout Sunday, Girl Scout Sabbath and Girl Scout Shabbat

Girl Scout Sunday, Girl Scout Sabbath and Girl Scout Shabbat in Girl Scouting’s Second Century - 2013

It is hard to believe that we are now entering our second century as an organization that promotes building courage, confidence and character in girls; teaching lessons which will stay with her while she embarks on her life journey and promoting female leadership.

To celebrate Girl Scouting and all the lessons learned, Girl Scout Week is celebrated.  Starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath, the week filled with fun activities, lessons, birthday celebrations, also includes the Girl Scout Birthday on March 12th.

Girl Scout Sunday, Girl Scout Sabbath and Girl Scout Shabbat provides girls with an opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout in their religious community. It is a time when Girl Scouts are encouraged to explore their own faith, as well as other faiths and cultures that may be prevalent in the community, and how these faiths can have similar core values as Girl Scouting; a time for Girl Scouts to reflect upon the importance of the words, “to serve God”. The connections between faith and Girl Scouting can be explored through the “My Promise, My Faith” pins that have been designed for each level.

In Girl Scouting, Troops use a variety of community locations as their meeting location. If a place of worship is the Troops meeting place or Troop Sponsor, girls may perform a service, such as greeting, ushering, or doing a flag ceremony during a worship service. If your Troop doesn’t meet at a place of worship, you can still encourage your place of worship to recognize Girl Scouting and take part in the service.

In 2013, Girl Scout Week begins Sunday, March 10th - Saturday, March 16th.

Happy 101st Birthday Girl Scouts!
